NEWS

The recent fire incident involving a cargo ship laden with vehicles, including electric cars, serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the shipping industry.
On February 16, 2022, the Felicity Ace, carrying 4,000 cars, including approximately 300 electric vehicles (EVs), succumbed to flames that consumed everything in their path, leading to the vessel’s eventual sinking.
Despite this tragedy and subsequent industry reforms, such catastrophes persist.

The inherent difficulty in extinguishing fires on carriers transporting electric vehicles stems from the unique properties of lithium-ion batteries.
These batteries, prone to thermal runaway reactions, pose a formidable challenge to conventional firefighting methods.
Even if the fire does not originate within the battery pack itself, the heat can trigger spontaneous ignition, exacerbating the spread of flames from cell to cell and vehicle to vehicle.
Cooling the battery pack to quell the thermal runaway reaction or waiting until all combustible material is consumed are both impractical options in the confined spaces of a carrier ship.
In response to such incidents, early fire detection emerges as a critical imperative to mitigate risks and protect catastrophic losses.

Planck Vision Systems offers a revolutionary solution with its TNC thermal imaging cameras.
Unlike conventional systems that only alert to fires after visible signs of smoke and flame, TNC cameras excel at detecting abnormal heat conditions, enabling preemptive action before fires escalate.

At Planck Vision Systems, we remain steadfast in our commitment to merging innovation with practicality to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
Our suite of advanced monitoring tools, comprising thermal cameras, smart sensors, and analytics, seamlessly detects risks and optimizes operations.
Together, let us anticipate and address potential failures, paving the way for a safer and smarter tomorrow.

What are 5 rules for preventing fire?

  • Keep Flammable Materials Away From Heat Sources
  • Inspect Your Electrical Cords and Appliances for Damage
  • Make Sure You Have a Working Fire Extinguisher in Your Home
  • Plan and Practice a Fire Escape Route
  • Install Smoke Detectors and Test Them Regularly
