A transformer failure caused the fire at the 160 N. 16th St. substation, a company spokesperson said, and the transformer was damaged beyond repair.
“For the time being, we have reconfigured our local electric network to supply electricity to customers in the area with adjacent power lines,” said spokesperson Todd Meyers.
A spare transformer currently located in the Reading area is expected to be installed in the coming months.
